Undercover cop Jim Raynor (Jason Patric) is a veteran veteran. His partner, Kristen Cates (Jennifer Jason Leigh), is lacking in experience, but he believes she is tough enough to work his second case with him: a deep cover assignment to create down the famously hard-to-capture drug lord Gaines (Gregg Allman). While their relationship turns amorous during the assignment they might have to battle their dependence should they would like to create down Gaines once and for everybody, and turn into junkies.
