The Jade Pendant

Peony obtains a contract to work as a "flower girl" in America after fleeing an arranged marriage in China. There, she meets Tom, an American-born Chinese cook whose father works on the Transcontinental Railroad. They are thwarted in their efforts to expand their power into America by a Hong Kong Triad boss. Theirs is the story of the first great Chinese immigration to the United States – a story of romance, bigotry, passion, food, and the quest for everlasting love – set against the backdrop of the largest mass lynching in American history in Los Angeles' Chinatown in 1871.
