The Reader

The narrative of Michael Berg, a German lawyer that, as a teenager in the late 1950s, had an affair with an older woman, Hanna, that then vanished only to resurface years later as one of the defendants in a war crimes trial stemming from her acts being a concentration camp guard late in the warfare. He realizes that Hanna could be hiding that fact and is illiterate.
