Countdown
Countdown is a game series involving word and number puzzles. ITV Studios produce it and broadcast on Channel 4. It's introduced by Nick Hewer, aided by Rachel Riley, with lexicographer Susie Dent. It was the very first programme to be broadcasted on Channel 4, November 1982, and 67 series have been broadcast since its introduction on 2. With over 5,000 episodes, Countdown is just one of this longest-running game shows in the world, in addition to the French edition chiffres et des lettres, which has been running television always since 1965. Countdown was recorded for 27 years in The Leeds Studios, before moving to Granada Studios Last Year, then around to MediaCityUK in Salford Quays in 2013.
The programme has been presented by Richard Whiteley for more than twenty decades, until his passing in June 2005. It was then introduced by Des Lynam before Des O'Connor before the conclusion of 2008, the conclusion of 2006, also Jeff Stelling before the conclusion of 2011. The presenter is Nick Hewer.
The series was, left by carol Vorderman, the series's co host, who'd previously been in the programme since it began at December 2008. Rachel Riley substituted her.
A celebrity guest features in every programme, and offers a quick interlude before the advertisement break. Both contestants in each incident compete in three different areas: twenty five letters rounds, in which the contestants try to really make the longest sentence possible from nine randomly chosen letters. Three numbers rounds, in which the contestants must utilize arithmetic to accomplish a more arbitrary target number from six additional amounts. And the conundrum, a buzzer round where the contestants compete to address a nine-letter anagram. During the string heats, the winning contestant yields until he or she has accumulated eight wins. The best contestants are encouraged back to get the string finals, which might be decided in knock out arrangement. The programme in general is recognised and parodied, and national press coverage has been received by contestants of unique skill within British culture.
