Punishment

Punishment is an Australian television soap opera made by the Reg Grundy Organisation for the Ten Network in 1981. Set in a men's prison, so the show attempted to exhibit a man version of the soap Prisoner. Punishment was seen by attempts by the show's manufacturers to differentiate the show. However, the formula failed to attract good viewing figures. Network Ten deemed the string a failure after just three episodes choose to go into air, and it had been quickly removed from the programs. After that year, the remaining of these 26 episodes produced were displayed out-of-ratings. For a soap opera, the show had been taped using precisely the same camera technique. The regular cast featured many notable actors such as Barry Crocker, Brian Wenzel, Michael Preston, Ross Thompson, Anne Haddy, George Spartels, Cornelia Frances, Lisa Peers and Julie McGregor. Mel Gibson played a prisoner from the very first installment. Kris McQuade and the girl friend of Gibson's character played and has been phased out of the string thanks to Gibson's death. Alan Coleman produced and directed the programme.
