A lighthearted take on director Yasujiro Ozu theme of the struggles of relationshipsMorning tells the story of 2 boys who stop speaking in protest after their parents refuse to buy a television set. Ozu weaves a wealth of gags through a family group portrait as rich as the ones of the films , mocking the foibles of their world through the eyes of his son protagonists. Shot in stunning color and set at a suburb of Tokyo at which house-wives gossip about the neighbors' new automatic washer and unemployed husbands look for work as door to door salesmen, this enchanting humor refashions Ozu's own hushed classic I Was Born, But... to quietly satirize consumerism in post war Japan.
