A new woman, Tara Maguire (Robin Wright) scandalizes her provincial Irish village in the 1950s having a baby out of a wedlock, also refusing to call the father. She includes a rare splendor and every man in the city wants her, notably Sergeant Hegarty (Albert Finney).
