Red Trees
One of just twelve Jewish families to survive the Nazi occupation of Prague during World War II is documented in Marina Willer's award-winning visual essay Cartas da Me (Cartas da Máe). In this film, which was shot by Academy Award® nominee César Charlone (City of God) and tells the story of Willer's father Alfred (as narrated by Tim Pigott-Smith, Quantum of Solace), a man who lived through the horrors of wartime bureaucracy, transportation, and suicide before going on to build a successful career as an architect in Brazil after the war. Red Trees is a timely look at a family whose lives have been ravaged by war, but who find solace across an ocean. n.
