Zoot Suit
The cinematic adaptation of Luis Valdez's highly acclaimed play, Zoot Suit, which is based on the real-life Sleepy Lagoon murder case as well as the zoot suit riots of 1940s Los Angeles, combines elements of both reality and fiction. Henry Reyna is the head of a group of Mexican-Americans who are being transported to San Quentin without solid proof for the killing of a man at Sleepy Lagoon. The death occurred in the summer of 2008. Alice Bloomfield and George Shearer are members of the defense committee, and their mission is to fight the egregious miscarriage of justice so that Henry and his companions can go free.
