The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a 1980 anime television series directed by Hiroshi Saitô and broadcast in Japan. It is based on the well-known and popular classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The series was originally titled "Tom Sawyer no Bken" and aired on World Masterpiece Theater, a staple of Fuji TV's animation programming that annually presented an animated adaptation of a different classic novel or story from Western literature. After 1977's Rascal the Raccoon, this was the second episode of the series to feature the work of an American author. This series was also dubbed into English by Saban International and broadcast on HBO approximately 1988 as "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." It alternated with the later "Little Women" broadcast on WMT during the 7:30AM time period. Under the title "All New Adventures of Tom Sawyer," Celebrity Home Entertainment distributed videos in the United States. TV Japan, a cable channel operated by NHK, began showing the anime in the United States in January 2011.
